Oh, shivers. Buds are bursting!

It is still chilly here in the north, so I was surprised to hear that the central North Islands East Coast fruit trees are already bursting with blossoms!

Which leads me to think - we will have a wonderful spring, as nippy weather is good for keeping pests away and gaining a decent fruit set.

But this also means I am late to remind you all that it is time to start your spring regimen for catching and curbing those moths!

When those blossoms are bursting

  1. wrap the trunk with fibre that holds oil, ideally, Naturally Neem, mixed with a cheap oil like canola. Use about 10ml per 200ml of canola. See my funny video here https://youtu.be/guqoUVT1Cxs?si=MAadK1ZP4Om5AwhC

  2. scatter Sea-Hume granules under trees

  3. give the trunks a spray with DiPel mixed with Naturally Neem

  4. hang up your solar moth traps

  5. you can also hang the sticky traps to monitor when the moths are present

That's it - then repeat at petal fall, which is also when the fruit is setting.
